How Often Do You Want to Drive That Far?

e all get out of the house from time to time. Some of these trips are our everyday commutes to work. Others are short errands such as to a nearby supermarket. Then there are longer voyages to our country retreats or vacation spots. I've created this table to show my own preferences as to how often I'm willing to make a particular errand, commute, or voyage. That frequency is directly dependent upon how long the trip is:

Thus, if I had a second home at Lake Tahoe- a 3-hour drive from San Francisco-- I'd find it easy to go there twice each winter, and I could do it twice a month if I were an avid skier. If you're thinking of buying a second home, you should create your own table so as to gauge just how much you're likely to visit the place.
